Bill Gates' 5-acre compound in Medina, Washington is valued at $136 Million and is known as one of the most high-tech, ecologically friendly homes in the world.
The building is made mostly of Douglas fir timber salvaged from an abandoned lumber mill. There is a 11,500 square foot living area for the family and the guest wing, equipped with two additional bedrooms, has a 20-seat art deco movie theatre, a 2,100 square foot library - with 10,000 rare hardbacks, Leonardo da Vinci's notebook, the Codex Leicester, which Gates purchased for a little less than $31 Million in 1994.
Gates has the home powered by 100 microcomputers that raise and dim lighting according to outdoor light, and control heating as people enter and leave rooms or fall asleep. As a guest, you are issued e-pins that monitor you as you move throughout the facilities. The pins transmit your favourite music, TV shows, and preferred temperature to the computers, and that is what you get when you enter a room.
The compound also houses a trampoline room, an 18-hole miniature golf course, a 1,000 square foot formal dining room and extensive business and reception facilities.
Guess who's coming to dinner?
