South Carolina's Democratic primary has begun. Voters are casting ballots as we speak. More than half the voters are expected to be African Americans.
The candidates have worked hard for this one.
Hillary went on Tyra (http://kerijam.blogspot.com/2008/01/omg-tyra-banks.html), but then Bubba fell asleep on MLK (http://kerijam.blogspot.com/2008/01/clinton-sleeps-on-mlk.html)... but then Hillary won the NY Times endorsement.
Obama has Oprah, Scarlett and Pete Wentz, but then he came across as a bit whiny when attacked by the Clintons. He needs to stay focused and answer the key questions. Relevance is important vs. simple retaliation.
Edwards has smartly leveraged Hillary's and Obama's ongoing catfights to position himself as the mature candidate, way above the rabblerousers. For example, yesterday at a campaign rally in Greenville, South Carolina, Edwards said that "Senator Clinton and Senator Obama have brought their New York- and Chicago-style politics to South Carolina -- fighting with each other, tearing each other down. But South Carolina's better than that, and you deserve better than that." Edwards has also launched a new ad called "Grown-up", which highlights the bickering of the other 2 and the comparative seriousness of Edwards. Good luck with that.
I can't wait to learn who wins tonight. Obama desperately needs a win in South Carolina in order to effectively stay in the game. Let the nail biting begin...ouch!
