Stan O'Neal Made Bank

Congratulations, Stan O'Neal. You are now exactly $161.5 Million dollars wealthier.

Yes, I said congratulations...and I genuinely meant it.

I understand that Mr. O'Neal was oftentimes hard to work with. He allegedly was moody, and equally unpredictable/unkind to loyalists and detractors. He also worked extremely independently, and kept his own counsel - case in point - Mr. O'Neal's private discussions with the CEO of Wachovia about the potential sale of Merrill to Wachovia without ever informing key stakeholders at Merrill about his strategy (really, Stan - you told no one?!!!).

I also understand that there are many, many valuable and arguably better uses of $161.5 Million dollars - e.g. helping to alleviate world hunger, funding much needed medical research, contributing to scholarship programs, etc. - than lining the pockets of an already very wealthy individual.

However, Mr. O'Neal worked hard for the money. Running Merrill was not about winning a popularity contest. Which leadership position is? You will always have naysayers. Always. And, Mr. O'Neal delivered. Just look at his 21-year track record at the company. He turned that firm around. As per The Wall Street Journal, Mr. O'Neal more than doubled Merrill's profit level to an average topping $5Bn annually from 2003 to 2006, and he essentially was credited with transforming Merrill from a US focused retail broker to an international financial giant.

Give credit where it is due. Mr. O'Neal has had a stellar career. He had a major fumble recently, but what accomplished leader hasn't? Yes, he probably ought to leave the firm. Yes, he probably unnecessarily created enemies along the way. However, let's not begrudge him his pay package. Stan deserved to make bank. He worked real hard for the money.

Easy Going - Help Keep Me that Way

Folks,

I have no problem with directives. No problem with doing what I am asked -within reason. No problem listening to you and acting on it. No problem. Really, no problem.

What I do have a problem with is when you continuously forget to say PLEASE or THANKS. Folks - being mannerly doesn't take that much. Work with me here, guys. I am really easy going - please help keep me that way.

THANK YOU!!!

Marthapedia?!!

Oh mercy me!

I am watching the Big Idea with Donny Deutsch on CNBC and - oh boy - Martha Stewart is - oh boy - planning to launch a Wikipedia for the homemaker called Marthapedia. Okkk. I am sure it will be successful. However, my first reaction - (as you read) was - Oh mercy me - then gagging, then I just felt very tired, then finally - supportive.

Best of luck, Martha. Oh boy.

Fun News Item - Cheney Hunting in NY - RUN!!

NY Hunters Run For Cover as VP Cheney visits on Upstate Hunting Trip

Article from today's New York Post

Caption: DUCK! CHENEY ON UPSTATE HUNTING TRIP
By AUSTIN FENNER

October 29, 2007 -- Vice President Dick Cheney went hunting this morning in upstate New York, where some avid sportsmen gave him a piece valuable advice -- don't invite them. Knowing full well that the safest place to stand when Cheney has a shotgun is behind him, these hunters were taking no chances.

They did their hunting at a different gun club.

Not that they had a choice. The Clove Valley Rod & Gun Club in Dutchess County where Cheney did his shooting is reserved for the well-heeled enthusiasts – no matter how bad their guest's aim might be.

Deer hunter Bill Tryon, 48, who was shooting at the Mid-County Rod & Gun club on the other side of Clove Mountain, said he had no problem with Cheney pulling the trigger near his preserve. "As long as he doesn't shoot anyone in the ass," Tryon said.

Cheney became a punch line in 2006 after he sprayed a hunting companion, lawyer Harry Whittington, during a Texas hunting trip. The Vice President came under fire for not going public with the incident for four days. Cheney called the mishap "one of the worst days" of his life. Whittington forgave Cheney for the accident, and chided the media for being so hard on the vice president.

Residents in New York's Hudson River Valley were more concerned about the traffic. Cheney's 15 SUV caravan forced officials to close a section of Route 9 in both directions.

Goodbye, Stan :(

Moment of Silence.

Stan O'Neal, the 56-year old CEO of Merrill Lynch & Co. has been forced to leave his job due to a significant multi-billion dollar write-off he announced last week. Although his departure was rumoured to occur, it was surprising how quickly the board was willing to oust Mr. O'Neal.

Mr. O'Neal became the highest ranking African-American on Wall Street - rising from the cotton fields of Wedowee, Alabama, to the top position at Merrill Lynch.

What Happened?
(Highlights from The Wall Street Journal)
  • Mr. O'Neal's downfall in some ways seems related to last week's announcement that Merrill would write down $8.4Bn in the 3rd quarter - the largest loss in Wall Street memory

  • Many were shocked by the speed with which the board threw its chief overboard

  • Mr. O'Neal was credited with boosting Merrill's profitability and transforming it from a US focused retail broker to an international financial giant

  • Historically, Merill's board gave Mr. O'Neal a lot of leeway because he more than doubled the firm's profit level to an average topping $5Bn annually from 2003 to 2006

  • Some former colleagues say Mr. O'Neal's talent and steely drive came with one tragic flaw: he didn't engage much in debate, kept his own counsel and had little use for the kind of strong-willed subordinates who might have helped him steer clear of the subprime troubles that brought him down

  • In the early years of his tenure, which began in 2002, Mr. O'Neal purged the firm of many of its longtime senior employees and later fired some of those considered his allies

  • The final straw was Mr. O'Neal's unilateral decision to ask Wachovia Corp. CEO G. Kennedy Thompson, a longtime client of the firm, whether he would be interested in buying Merrill. Mr. Thompson demurred, but the move's appearance of desperation - particularly since Wachovia just acquired a big St. Louis brokerage and now rivals Merrill's brokerage in size - offended some of Merrill's directors, brokers and some executives who were unaware of the overture

Sad times. But, Stan's exit package is estimated to be worth over $160 Million. He is still negotiating.

Good luck, Stan!!

Safer Outside with the Lightning?

Two brothers having fun with their PlayStation at home in Connecticut.

They are singing and strumming along to songs on the video game Guitar Hero 2, with the plastic guitar controller pressed to their stomachs.

Then, lightning, followed by a severe thunderclap and they both drop to the floor - not part of their performance, it's the impact from the lightning strike.

---------------------------------------------
See below for more on this story (Source: Today's Wall Street Journal)

Chris Bergin and his brother, Ben, were jamming along to "Message in a Bottle" on the videogame Guitar Hero 2 during a storm in June when a bright light flashed and a thunderclap shook their house in Wilton, Conn.

The lightning strike nearby triggered a power surge that snaked through the house's electrical system to Mr. Bergin's PlayStation 2 then traveled through the wiring to the plastic guitar controller pressed up against his stomach.

"I just remember falling to the ground and looking at my brother 'cause he was on the ground, too," says the 15-year-old Mr. Bergin. The two brothers weren't hurt, but their PlayStation was fried, along with their laptop computer, television set, cable and phone wiring and ceiling fan.

Lightning safety experts, endorsing common sense, have long advised that indoors is the safest place to be during an electrical storm. The National Weather Service recently adopted the slogan, "When thunder roars, go indoors."

But the spread of high-tech devices, including laptops and videogames, means there are new ways in which people can suffer injuries or property losses, even in the relative safety of their homes. A division ofSony Corp., Sony Computer Entertainment America, the maker of PlayStation products, says it hadn't heard of incidents like this and says its devices come with safety instructions about lightning. Activision Inc., which makes the Guitar Hero game, advocates staying off electronics during storms.

Mark Earley, chief electrical engineer at the National Fire Protection Association, says the new lightning safety slogan should be modified slightly: "When thunder roars, stay indoors -- and read a book."

Among the recent incidents: A Mississippi teenager got zapped while holding a computer mouse; a Washington, D.C., man received mild burns from a laptop resting on his legs; and a Georgia police communications manager felt a stinging sensation when lightning jolted the police department -- "like somebody took their middle finger and flicked me in the cheek," she says.
"My hair was tingling. My teeth hurt," says Stacy Blackwell, of the Winder, Ga., police. The strike in July "blew up quite a bit of equipment," says Alex Wages, the city's director of information technology.

While Ms. Blackwell was unharmed, lightning-induced surges can cause serious injury. The plastic casing covering laptops, game controls or computer keyboards sometimes isn't thick enough to insulate users, so people holding plugged-in devices can get burns or suffer other injuries.

Of course, physical injuries related to lightning are still far more likely to occur outdoors. In the first nine months of this year, 41 people were killed by lightning strikes in the U.S., and all were outside doing things such as playing golf, fishing or standing under a tree, according to the National Weather Service.

But property damage indoors is common, and getting more expensive when it happens. The average cost of an insurance claim from a lightning strike has more than doubled since 2000, rising to $3,446 in 2006, according to the Insurance Information Institute. The increase in the cost per claim has a lot to do with all the wide-screen TV sets, computer systems and other expensive gear.

The tab from damaged electronics can climb quickly in some cases. Chubb Corp., the big insurer, says it paid out more than $300,000 in 2006 when lightning struck a house in Hawaii and damaged the audio system, the internal Ethernet computer network, the lighting system, and the wireless control panel that ran the house's electronics. Chubb declined to identify the homeowner.

Every piece of electronic gear that is plugged into an electric outlet is vulnerable to a lightning-induced surge, which can enter a house through wiring or plumbing. When lightning strikes a power line, it can send a surge through a nearby home's wiring. The electricity can snake through the home to anything that's plugged in.

Michael Utley, who has a Web site called struckbylightning.org, says he has logged a number of cases in which people claim to have suffered injuries or property damage as a result of indoor surges to electronic games.

"When it hits something it goes pop whether it's a plasma TV or a heart," says Mr. Utley who himself survived a lightning strike seven years ago when, while he was playing golf, a bolt traveled through the top of his head and exited his putter.

Two summers ago, 19-year-old Travis Brooks was working at his computer with his hand on the mouse when a lightning-induced surge traveled through the wiring in his Hurley, Miss., home. The surge zapped his hand, knocking him to the floor, according to Jackson County, Miss., sheriff's department records. When deputies arrived, Mr. Brooks was complaining of chest pains and a numb arm. He was treated at a hospital and released.

Decades ago, lightning safety experts issued warnings about telephones and lightning strikes. A surge could travel through wiring and shock anyone using the phone in a thunderstorm. In rare instances people on party lines would all get a shock. Today's cordless phones and cellphones are safe to use indoors unless the handsets are being charged at the time.

Ms. Blackwell had just answered the phone at the Georgia police station when "there was a pop, and the phone went dead," she says.

Staying away from household electronics -- or anything that could carry the charge, such as metal -- is the best way to protect oneself from surges. And one simple way to protect electronic gear is to unplug it when a storm is due. But many people don't bother.

Instead, in an effort to protect their gear, many consumers buy surge protectors. But lightning strikes generate so much force that they can overwhelm all but the most sophisticated defenses. "Just putting a device on an incoming line may not solve all the problems," says Mitchell Guthrie, a Blanch, N.C., electrical engineer and consultant.

An article called "Pimp Your Plasma" on a Web site that reviews electronic gadgets for consumers, advises people who buy expensive TVs to also purchase a $200 surge protector that can suppress "punishing power strikes and surges resulting from lightning strikes." "You've just popped for a high-end TV," the site says. "...Please tell us you're not going to plug [it] into a $12 strip you grabbed on sale at the hardware store."

Wintour & Marley???

Que' es going on here?

Anna Wintour (Editor-in-Chief of American Vogue magazine), and Bob Marley (if you don't know him, I don't care to help you), apparently had a week-long affair in the 1970s!! They were introduced by mutual friend, Chris Blackwell (Island Records founder). Chris got Anna a backstage pass to one of Bob's shows in NY. Bob & Anna connected and then disappeared for one-week...

Interesting Moment - Bill Maher

I was able to see a replay of Friday night's "Real Time with Bill Maher" and enjoyed some exciting "live" TV. An audience member was heckling Bill and continually interrupting the panel debate. Bill got so frustrated that his security wasn't doing anything about it, that he jumped up and lunged into the audience saying he would get rid of the guy himself. Ha ha ha. Security finally woke up and took the man out.

Bill sat down and then a few more hecklers started up. Bill stood up and threatened to get rid of them too and told his security to essentially rough up the rowdy audience members.

Interesting, TV. Glad I was able to catch that moment.

For a more detailed account, see the following:

-------------------

Maher Boots Protester From Audience
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bill Maher can add "security guard" to his job description alongside comedian and political commentator. Maher on Friday night helped security remove a rowdy protester from the studio during his weekly HBO show "Real Time with Bill Maher," and it was all captured on live television.

Maher was talking science during one of his weekly panel discussions when a protester in his audience stood up, held up a smuggled-in sign reading "9/11 is a cover up fraud" and shouted comments to the same effect.

The host tried to shout down the audience member, who only became more agitated. "Do we have some (expletive) security in this building," Maher yelled, "or do I have to come down there and kick his (expletive)?"When security reached the man's aisle and the man resisted leaving, Maher ran into the seats and helped them push him out the door, shouting "Out! Out! Out!"

Several other protesters, sprinkled throughout the audience, then stood up and shouted. "This isn't the Iowa Caucus, OK, we're not here to debate," Maher shouted with most of his audience cheering him on. "This is the problem with live television."The incident was shown live on the East Coast, and the network appeared to show the entire affair unedited for the taped-delayed West Coast version.

After the instigators were ejected, Maher told his panelists — MSNBC's Chris Matthews, Los Angeles Times columnist Joel Stein and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson — that they often linger outside his studio to share 9/11 conspiracy theories with him and try to get into the show."It's the only time I defend Bush," he said. "I'm thinking about firing my audience department," he added.

Regular audience members found the ruckus thrilling."We picked a very exciting night to be here," Eliot Stein, a 54-year-old high school teacher, said via cell phone. "There's few live TV shows anymore, and here you got to see, it was like a movie. it was great."

Ricky Martin Loves His Bon Bon

I was on my way back home from evening service at church, when I got a call from Maya. She had an extra ticket to the Ricky Martin concert in Madison Square Gardens and wanted to know if I was interested. When would I need to leave? In 5 minutes? Absolutely! Count me in.

We got to the concert about 1hr and 15 mins. late. We had seats in the Club Suite (thanks to our company) and missed about 10 mins. of Ricky's performance. There was no opening act and so for the first hour of the concert, the audience just waited patiently for Ricky to show up.

Overall, I give the show a grade of C-, sharply dropping from my original A/A- during the last 10-15 mins. of the performance.

Ricky started out very strong. He built us up with hits like Livin La Vida Loca, and She's All I Ever Had, combined with well choreographed dance moves and slick visual effects. At times the backing band overpowered Ricky, and you could hardly hear him singing. In addition, he performed a lot of remixes, where his actual singing time was less than in the original versions. However, Ricky's charisma carried the day and the audience lapped it up.

Something stood out for me as I watched Ricky tonight. This man clearly loves his Bon Bon. Aside from strutting his stuff in tight pants and extra tight little shirts - only Rick can rock the '80s look in 2007 - there was a segment of the program where we got to view, in detail, Ricky's anatomy. A cage-like structure descended onto the stage and the audience was shown video clips of Ricky naked (no full frontal - phew!), with close ups of his tattoos and select body parts. I did not get the significance of this interlude - it seemed to be simply a way for Ricky to pay homage to Ricky.

As the performance continued, the screams grew louder, and people were swaying to the beat and shaking their own bon-bons. Then, Ricky said goodbye. We, the obedient audience, of course play our role - we scream, we clap...Ricky re-emerges for the encore. He sings one or two more songs and says goodbye again. He still hasn't sung Shake Your Bon-Bon, so I am guessing he wants another encore.

As Ricky is lowered into the stage, I realize that the show is actually finished. This is absolutely ridiculous. Are we expected to come to a Ricky Martin concert and not hear him perform Shake Your Bon-Bon? No matter how much Ricky shimmied, no matter how much he strutted, no matter how many super-tight tanks he wore, that does not make up for leaving us without performing Bon-Bon. I want my money back, Ricky (technically, my company's money). How disappointing! I still cannot believe you left us that way.

I will still give you a C- , but I am being generous.

Laugh Lounge, NYC

My friend Nish and I, and a few of his friends, went to the Laugh Lounge in NYC on Friday. We got discounted tickets for the comedy show and figured it was worth a shot. The Lounge is split into two levels - an upstairs bar/lounge area, and a stage with seating for the comedy shows located downstairs.

We were assigned to table 19. There were not many people out that night and as I looked for table 19, I was "interested" to see that I would be sitting directly in front of the stage, right under the microphone. Wonderful. I took my seat and felt as if I was in one of the investigation rooms in a prison. Hot lights from above were shining down on me and I was literally underneath the comedian. Here we go.

The host was an African American guy, 5'6" with plaited hair. He made fun of the small number of people there: ~23 in a room that could comfortably fit ~60. He was pretty good and so were the other acts that night. With my front and center position, I had the honor of being teased about several things:

  • Being happy that it was Friday. Apparently because I said I was glad it was Friday, that meant that I was pissed off with people at work and really needed a laugh or else I would wreak havoc on my colleagues on Monday morning. The comedian said he felt it was his responsibility to make sure that I laughed so that he could save lives

  • Working as a Management Consultant. Comedian wondered what on earth that job meant. You walk into a company, ask someone where's management?, go to management, tell them you are here to consult, then walk out and your job is done

  • Being Jamaican. Comedian mimicked my accent. Asked how on earth did I end up at the Laugh Lounge on a Friday night and what was I doing with the people at my table.

You had to be there to get some of the jokes. I got them and probably laughed the hardest at the Keri jokes.

Here are some of the non-Keri jokes that I liked (and can remember):

  • Comedian was making fun of people who dress their small pet dogs in sweaters. The dog is a sweater - why put one on him? That is like putting a bathing suit on a fish or a viking helmet on a rhinoceros

  • George Bush is like a colour-blind kid with a Rubik's cube

  • Children who are working in sweatshops are not trying hard enough to get out. There is not even a "Help Me" sign embroidered on the back of the clothes they make. No map, no directions. Nothing. Come on little buddy, you gotta help me find you

  • George Bush cutting health care for kids may not be such a bad idea. Kids are stinky and silly. My nephew said to me he loves the colour blue forever. Really, forever? Stupid. I am going to take away your health care

  • However, prisoners have health care. So, if you are sick, go rob a bank and don't try to get away. Get caught, so that you ensure that you end up in prison. You survey prisoners about why they are in the joint: "I killed someone", "Armed robbery", "Kidney transplant"

Al Gore Wins Nobel Peace Prize (Today)!!!!

Congratulations, Al Gore!!!

Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize! I am so impressed and stunned. Great job, Al. You kept at it and look at how far you have come. Presidency or Nobel Peace Prize? Well, if you can't have both, I would definitely go for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Former VP Al (aged 59) and the UN's Intergovernmental Panel won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize today for their work on raising awareness about man-made climate change and how to proactively address the associated impact.

"I am deeply honored to receive the Nobel Peace Prize," Gore said. "We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity."*

I am proud of you, Al...so excited about your accomplishment. (Why am I this happy?? Hmm...let's not focus on that now). Enjoy this great honour, Al!!

Thoughts for the Day - Time

Times teaches all things to him who lives forever, but I have not the luxury of eternity.

In truth, experience teaches thoroughly yet her course of instruction devours men's years so the value of her lessons diminishes with the time necessary to acquire her special wisdom. The end finds it wasted on dead men.

The Greatest Salesman in the World, Og Mandino

Six Year Old Daredevil

I love adventure. As an adult, some of my adventures have included sky-diving, bungee jumping, white water rafting and sleeping/trespassing overnight in an open field in Massachusetts during the winter.

When I think back to my youth, I realize that this spirit of adventure has always been a part of who I am. One of my earliest episodes occurred when I was ~ 6 years old and living in Barbados. I woke up one day and decided that my adventure for the day would be to jump out of a moving vehicle.

After school, my cousin - Julian - (aged 6), my sister - Tessa - (aged 4), and I were waiting to be picked up by my parents' company driver. While we waited, I shared my plans with Tessa and Julian. They were both skeptical, but I was determined that I was not going to jump alone.

Our driver picked us up in a big red van and we opened the sliding door and sat down. We were about 45-mins. from home and I spent the first 1/2 hour of the journey cajoling, begging, and convincing Tessa and Julian to participate in my adventure. Julian finally agreed, but Tessa still hadn't committed.

As we got closer to our house, close enough that I could see the gate, I started to debate whether jumping was really a good idea. With about 2-mins. left before we turned into the gate, I decided it was now or never. I opened the sliding door, looked down at the moving road, and jumped.

As I was rolling on the gravelly road, I looked towards the open door and was excited to see that Julian had also jumped and was similarly rolling around. Tessa stood at the edge of the door, peeking out at myself and Julian, with a look of fear on her face.

Julian and I got up, marvelled at our cuts and bruises and smiled hard at each other. We were so proud of ourselves and what we had dared to accomplish.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!

Here's an excerpt from the MTV News Site (My blog got mentioned first!!!):

Ticket Stubs: Jennifer Lopez, Avril Lavigne, Hives, The National
Posted by MTV News, New York,NY, at 5:00 pm EST on Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

In today’s online concert reports, we find parents-to-be, a sk8er grrrl, dance-punk Swedes and self-deprecating indie-rockers.

- Keri saw soon-to-be-parents Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Monday. She definitely took note of Lopez’s extra-flowy costumes and restrained dance moves, but “J.Lo delivered her usual great performance.” (Keri’s Life)

- Just after Avril Lavigne took home the Best International Singer prize at MTV Russia’s VMAs, Yana went to see the “Complicated” singer onstage in Moscow. “There’s no need to mention the crowd bursting at the sight of Avril, screaming and shouting,” the superfan observed. (Toris Notes)

- The Hives hit Webster Hall for their first NYC-area show in three years, and Brooklyn Vegan’s Dominic Masi Jr. was there for all the dance-rock action. “The set was only an hour and fifteen minutes long, but I didn’t leave unfulfilled,” Masi wrote. (Brooklyn Vegan)

- Frank went back for seconds of the National after seeing them just four months prior at Toronto’s Phoenix Concert Theatre, and he wasn’t disappointed. “This show wasn’t terribly different from last time, which is fine — that show was fantastic, and so was this,” Frank enthused. (ChromeWaves)

Here's the article that got me the special mention:

Thank you, God. You are AMAZING!!!

Marc Anthony and J.Lo Concert

My cousin Karyn and I went to the Marc Anthony and J. Lo concert on Monday night in Madison Square Gardens. Thanks to my company (again), we were able to enjoy the Club Suite experience. Learning from my last adventure (see http://kerijam.blogspot.com/2007/09/monday-with-bjork.html), we decided not to be on time and showed up about 1/2 hr late. We missed the comedian - which I heard may have been a blessing in disguise.

Marc started the show. He had the crowd screaming pretty much from start to finish. He has fantastic vocal ability and is just a pleasure to watch. He's a hottie tottie Tom Thumb (sorry!). Marc belted out his tunes, the audience sang along when prompted (and also when not), and Marc wowed us with some of his sexy Latin moves. At one point, someone from the audience threw a piece of cloth on stage. Nothing risque, it was the Puerto Rican flag. Marc opened the flag covered his face and body with it, knelt on the ground and continued to sing his heart out. I thought that was such a nice touch...really powerful connection with the audience...plus who knows where that flag had been.

I was highly impressed with Marc's performance, and may likely buy a couple of his CDs, but let's face it, I was there to see J.Lo.

Jennifer came on with a bang and flash of lights. It was so obvious that she was pregnant - but hey, let's play the game and wait for the "official announcement". J.Lo started out by saying how many faces she recognized in the audience. Whaaa? Seriously, J.Lo - you are a native New Yorker, but are we to believe that you remember us little folk from back in the day?? I found out later that her mom, sister and some friends were up front and center. Logic returns.

Aside from wearing more clothing, and being more restrained in her dance movements, J.Lo delivered her usual great performance. She started with some of her classics, and surprised the audience with in-person duets with Fat Joe and LL Cool J. Apparently Jah Rule is busy with something, and so only his recorded voice participated that night. LL Cool J was the true star - he got more applause and screams than J.Lo. Watch out, LL!

My biggest and most pleasant surprise of the night was that J.Lo sang live and sang well! Her voice has improved!! Great job, J.Lo. You were able to carry the tunes in a powerful voice. You will never be Beyonce, Aretha or Whitney, but you definitely outshone Britney and are far, far improved from your earlier days.

The night ended with J.Lo and Marc dueting. It was moving to see their affection and tenderness for each other. Marc held J.Lo around her waist as they sang with great emotion to each other. Sold! Where can I buy the album?

Congrats, J. Lo and Marc! May you have many happy years together and have a wonderful time with your new bundle of joy!

Today's Mood: Survivor

[Chorus]I'm a survivor (what),

I'm not gonna give up (what),

I'm not gon' stop (what),

I'm gonna work harder (what),

I'm a survivor (what),

I'm gonna make it (what),

I will survive (what),

Keep on survivin' (what),

I'm a survivor (what),

I'm not gonna give up (what),

I'm not gon' stop (what),

I'm gonna work harder (what),

I'm a survivor (what),

I'm gonna make it (what),

I will survive (what),

Keep on survivin' (what).
-----

Thought I couldn't breathe without you,

I'm inhalin'

You thought I couldn't see without you,

Perfect vision,

You thought I couldn't last without ya,

But I'm lastin'

You thought that I would die without ya,

But I'm livin'

Thought that I would fail without ya,

But I'm on top,

Thought it would be over by now,

But it won't stop,

You thought that I would self-destruct,

But I'm still here,

Even in my years to come,

I'm still gon' be here.

(Lyrics from Destiny's Child's Survivor [excerpts])

Encouragement - God has smiled on me

God has smiled on me

He has set me free

God has smiled on me

He has been so good to me

He has been so good to me

Nigella Bites

Nigella Bites, was one of my all-time favourite cooking shows. I loved the witty, British star - Nigella Lawson. She was refreshing...unapologetic about her love for food, and comfortable in her beautiful, curvaceous skin.

I like cooking shows where the chef actually tastes their own food and seems to genuinely enjoy it. No fake nibbles from my Nigella, she tasted healthy portions and you sensed that she immensely enjoyed each bite.

I haven't seen Nigella's show in a while, but if you get a chance, check her out. I promise you a vicarious thrill.

Diddy, is it time for the big "V"?

Diddy, we get that you are a dashing playboy. We get that you love the women. We get that some of them love you back. We get it. We really get it. What we don't get is why you are single-handedly trying to re-populate planet earth. Slow your roll, friend. Please!

New Blog Entrant - Cathi Wilson

Welcome to the world of blogging, Cathi.

Check out Cathi's new blog:

Here's a bit of background on Love for Life:

Love for Life started 4 years ago as a Marriage Retreat hosted by the Kings Church of Christ. The purpose for having the retreat is to utilize strategies that strengthen the marital relationship. Our belief is that strong marriages, build strong families; strong families build strong churches; and strong churches build strong communities.

Why a Blog? Our retreats are annual. By having an ongoing venue we can build upon what has already been established at the retreat. While we will primarily deal with marital relationships, it is my hope that those of you who may be single will periodically visit, and receive insight. This may help you know what to look for in a mate.

Why, Pam? Why?

Pamela Anderson married Rick Solomon on Saturday. Rick is best known for selling his sex tape video with Paris Hilton. This is the 3rd marriage for both. Pam was recently married to Kid Rock for 3 months.

Pammie, why did you do this? Does this make any sense? Slow your roll, please!

Charrah's Ordeal

Charrah Watson suffered a terrible ordeal at the hands of her sister's boyfriend, Neto Meeks, ...and she lived to tell the tale. She fought and fought and fought for her life, and refuses to hide her story... no matter how much pressure she gets from the boyfriend's prominent family.

Her story is brutal, but also inspiring - it shows a superhuman will to live and courage to ensure that justice is served, no matter who you are in society.

To learn more about Charrah's story, please read: http://charrahwatson.blogspot.com/.

May God guide this situation and enable a fair resolution.
